Connected Midwifery

This is not the first time I am going to mention this… Heather Bruce is an acupuncturist/naturopath with 30 years experience with pregnancy and birth. Her seminar, Connected Midwifery is available on DVD from her website and is absolute gold.
Learn why women haemorrhage, what can help her open up, why mums get mastitis and what we can do as midwives and doulas to help.
Totally worth it.

My love affair with Byron Katie

For those of you who haven’t heard me mention her before (clearly you have never met me), here is Byron Katie doing her thing.
To find out about The Work go to www.thework.com ( where you can find more videos and better examples of Katie facilitating the work with people) or byronkatie.com
Her books include:
- Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life
- I Need Your Love – Is That True?: How to Stop Seeking Love, Approval, and Appreciation and Start Finding Them Instead
- A Thousand Names for Joy: Living in Harmony with the Way Things Are (my personal favorite, which is Katie’s commentary on the Tao Te Ching)
Adelaide vs Brisbane
March 30, 2008 at 1:27 am | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentOK, so I have actually done a SWOT analysis for my interstate move! Scary, yes.
I have put it all on an excel spreadsheet with pros, cons and buts for Adelaide and Brisbane in various categories including friends, travel, acupuncture, work, ease of placement, possibility of being able to attend a few homebirths (in SA) etc. Perhaps a little anal but it’s such a big decision! But of course I know the decision will make itself when the time comes.
Will keep you posted. Currently waiting on some important information that would put a big PRO in the Adelaide column.
Meanwhile, I should get back to some uni work…
Adelaide – Workshop 1
March 29, 2008 at 9:34 am | In Birth | Leave a CommentMy first trip to Adelaide – never been before. I really really liked it. Was surprised how much really. Trying to work out if it’s that I loved Adelaide itself (because, let’s be serious – I didn’t really see that much of it) or I am just associating the place with all the gorgeous midwives and midwives-to-be that I met there. It is certainly nice and quiet – I like that.
The workshop itself was just fabulous (probably again coloured by the lovely people there). We attacked dummies with needles and palpated their rubbery abdomens. But the best thing for me was being among people who didn’t go “Eewww” when I talked about placentas. When our lecturer said that women are perfectly capable of birthing their babies without us, and was correcting girls for using the word “delivery” or “delivered”, I knew we were in good hands.
Mainly it was heaven to be among such wonderful women, who I hope will make beautiful midwives.
Blessed,
Heather
B.Mid well underway
March 21, 2008 at 6:53 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentSo it’s week 3 (or 4? I can’t keep track) and this week I’m going to Adelaide for my first workshop. So excited to meet everyone in person and talk in real-time rather than the disjointed and limiting discussion boards.
I’ve done no packing or thinking about packing (except to think that I have done no packing) for my move to Brisbane later this month and Easter will be spent in the library catching up on 3 weeks of uni and doing my first 2 assignments, rather than packing or thinking about packing.
Also, the dog needs a bath, seriously.
ps. rather than pack or do uni work, today I simplified my website, check it out and tell me what you think: www.birthingspirit.com.au
